Is Meditation Actually Helpful?

I’d say YES.

Personally I have only been meditating for a couple of years. I had been told for years, “You should meditate, meditation is so great, everyone should meditate”. I just wasn’t interested.

I struggled to switch off. As soon as I closed my eyes I would think of everything I had to do.

Last year, my daughter had been having trouble going to sleep and someone suggested she listen to bedtime story meditation for kids. She wasn’t interested but I thought, “I like stories“, so I gave it a go myself. This turned out to be a good place for me to start. It kept my mind busy enough that I didn’t get distracted by everything I needed to do and I was able to easily relax into it and fall off to sleep. I found I slept much better when I listened before bed.

From here I started to explore other meditations and found that a guided mediation was similar. By following their instructions and listening to their voice I could stay focused. That is, as long as their voice wasn’t annoying 😊.

YouTube was great. I would just search something new each day and find something I liked. I now have quite a library of different meditations that I regularly go back to.

So I was sleeping better. That was great. I had listened to a few of Abraham Hicks’ meditations and they talked a lot about getting oneself into a joyous state of mind before starting the day. This is when I decided to give morning meditation a go. I committed to waking up earlier so that I could listen for 15 minutes before getting on with my normal routine.

Once I started doing this I really did start to feel the benefit. Especially on those mornings the alarm went off and I wanted to pull the covers over my head rather than get out of bed. It really helped me start the day with a more positive state of mind. I felt happier, more energetic and found I wasn’t getting triggered as often during the day. Things that had, in the past really pissed me off, were now only mild irritations.

I have started to explore more meditation types. There are so many to choose from. Recently I tried gong meditation and horse meditation. Both were pretty amazing, definitely something I would do again.

I have now gotten to a point where I can sit down and just breath, focus my mind and just let everything else go. This is a great feeling of peace and harmony. Well worth the journey in my opinion.
